  We only use the word new for items still in their factory-sealed packaging. Opening a sealed box to test a tool makes it Open Box.

• A return isn't a grade

  If an item came back to a store as a customer return, we grade it by its actual condition. Where it came from may be mentioned in the notes.

• Repairs are disclosed

  If we've fixed something, we grade the item by its condition now and say what was repaired. We never call our own repairs "refurbished."

• Why open box can say "used" elsewhere

  Search engines and marketplaces use simple labels like new, used or refurbished. We keep "new" for factory-sealed items, so elsewhere online our open-box items are labeled used, even when they've never been put to work. Here you'll always see the exact grade.
